HOD’S WELCOME ADDRESS

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, OAU, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The Department has over the past three decades produced highly skilled doctors and Health care professionals who are trailblazers in all sub-specialties of Paediatrics locally and globally. The Department continues to deliver on her mandate of teaching, clinical research and community services as well as strong local and international collaborations with other child survival partners.

The Department boasts of highly professional and globally recognized Faculties in the major sub-specialties of Paediatrics including Neonatology, Paediatric cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, haemato-oncology, gastroenterology and nutrition. In collaboration, with our sister institution- Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile-Ife, the Department invites you to explore her Paediatric pulmonology laboratory located at the OAUTHC, Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa and the Child Development centre at the Ife Hospital unit, Ile-Ife. The Paediatric cardiology unit and the State-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit at IHU, Ile-Ife is also worth exploring.

Standing on the shoulders of giants – (the foundation members of the department) we are highly motivated to see all what they see and beyond. The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health is positioned to continue to be a foremost Department for training of undergraduate and graduate doctors in Pediatric and Child health, not only in the West African sub-region, but globally. We continue to embrace modern methods including machine learning and AI to teach, research, engage, collaborate and expand. The Department is very open to local and international collaborations, exchange, internship, observership and partnership.
